The State of Kentucky recently completed a major renovation of the Mordecai Lincoln House (a favorite uncle of President Lincoln) near Springfield, Kentucky. American Antique Cabin Co. was asked to consult with the state on the documentation of the original construction of the log portion of the house.
This house is the only remaining residence known to have been owned and occupied by a member of the Lincoln family still standing on its original site. This house is listed on the National Register of Historical Places.
The original dwelling of Mordecai Lincoln and his wife Mary Mudd Lincoln* was built in 1797. It consisted of a story and a half log dog trot cabin. In 1815, the house you now see around the log structure was built. In 1960, it was sold to the state of Kentucky. It will be available to rent for special events and will be open for guided tours on special dates**.
*Mary Mudd Lincoln, aunt to Abraham Lincoln, was first cousin, twice removed, to Dr. Samuel Mudd, the Dr. who treated John Wilkes Booth after Lincoln's assassination.
